 | Our History Pursuant to a call of the First Baptist Church, Murray, Kentucky, a council, composed of Baptist ministers in Calloway County, met at the First Baptist Chapel, South Ninth Street, Murray, on July 3rd, 1966, at 2:00 p.m., for the purpose of organizing a Baptist church. The ministers who composed the council were as follows: Randolph Allen, H. C. Chiles, Luther Compton, W. A. Farmer, Willie Johnson, W. C. Skinner, R.A. Slinker, T.A. Thacker, Leroy Vaught, Earl Warford, L.D. Wilson, and H. R. Winchester. Dr. H. C. Chiles, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Murray, was elected moderator of the council; R. A. Slinker, retired missionary, was elected clerk: T.A. Thacker, pastor of Memorial Baptist Church, conducted the devotional exercises by reading Ephesians 4 and leading in prayer; B.R. Winchester, pastor of Elm Grove Baptist Church, led in prayer; and Randolph Allen, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, pronounced the benediction. G.T. Lilly, clerk of the First Baptist Church, Murray, presented the Articles of Faith, Church Covenant, and Rules of Decorum which were adopted by the charter members of the new organization. Upon motion and second it was voted that the eighty-six members be constituted into the Grace Missionary Baptist Church. The Articles of Faith, Church Covenant, and Rules of Decorum which were adopted and the names of the constituent members appear in the church's records. |
